Dental Cleaning Reviews
What Are the Benefits Of A Dental Cleaning?
Dental cleanings are one of the most effective ways to ensure your teeth are healthy and bright. Most individuals have dental cleanings twice a year, or about every six months, as part of a healthy dental hygiene routine. Some benefits of routine dental cleanings include:
- A brighter and whiter smile after polishing the teeth
- Better breath
- Tartar removal for healthier teeth
- Catch dental issues early on
- Strengthen the teeth with fluoride
- Almost always covered by insurance
Who Should Have a Dental Cleaning?
Based on the guidelines set by the American Dental Association (ADA), our dentist suggests that our patients have professional cleanings done at least twice a year. In some cases, patients may need more frequent cleanings due to individual concerns or the health of their teeth. Additionally, we recommend your child visits us before their first birthday. At this first visit, our team can let you know when you should bring your child back for their next visit.
It's important to your oral health to keep up with regular dental cleanings for several reasons. During a dental cleaning, plaque and tartar are removed, which minimizes the ability of bacteria to take up residence. Certain types of bacteria cause cavities (tooth decay) and others can lead to the development of gum (periodontal) disease. With regular dental cleanings, patients minimize the risk of oral disease by removing plaque and tartar buildup and create a healthier, confident smile by polishing surface stains. Your family can reduce their need for treatment and minimize costs over time by keeping up with routine dental cleanings.
What Happens During a Dental Cleaning?
Our dental hygienists work hard to make every patient's dental cleaning a good experience. Ultrasonic and hand instruments will be used during your cleaning to gently remove plaque and tartar from your teeth. In between visits, plaque and tartar buildup, and though plaque is easily removed from your teeth with a toothbrush, tartar (calcified plaque) must be removed using special instrumentation techniques. After removing these deposits from your teeth, we polish the surface stains for a bright, smooth finish. At the end of the exam, fluoride treatments are given to patients. Typically, we recommend fluoride treatments for all kids to strengthen their teeth and for any adults who may benefit from fluoride, which can help reduce the risk of cavities.
How Often Do I Need A Dental Cleaning?
Unless you have an outlying oral health issue, it is suggested that all patients receive a dental cleaning biannually. If you have been treated for gum disease, our dentist may suggest you come in every 3 – 4 months. Throughout bi-annual prophylaxis and exam visits, gum disease screenings can provide you with home care solutions to help reduce your risk of this common, though dangerous, condition. We can give you tips and tricks for optimal brushing and flossing based on your unique needs and may suggest additional products to help you achieve your healthiest smile. At the end of your appointment, we'll schedule your next cleaning so we can make sure to give you a day and time that's convenient for you.
Will Insurance Cover A Dental Cleaning?
As a preventive service, dental cleanings are typically covered by dental insurance, but we'll verify this with your provider. We will let you know about any out-of-pocket costs for your procedure prior to beginning your cleaning. At Made Ya Smile, we accept most PPO plans and several payment types to help your family receive affordable, needed care. We also accept third-party financing payments through CareCredit®.
