About Digital X-rays
Regular dental exams let our dentist and team identify dental concerns such as periodontal disease and tooth decay, but not all issues are visible. Some oral health concerns exist in the bone, under fillings, beneath the gums, and between the teeth. To make sure these hidden problems become clear so we can meet your dental needs, we take digital x-rays of your mouth yearly and as needed. High-tech digital x-rays produce extremely detailed images of your teeth and bone and are an excellent diagnostic tool. Digital x-rays reduce exposure to radiation by about 90 percent compared to traditional film.
We're proud to offer this safer, minimally invasive diagnostic procedure for our patients at Made Ya Smile Rayford. An important part of your exam, x-rays can show bone loss, abscesses in the jaw, cysts, tooth decay, and impacted teeth, along with many other conditions. Catching these problems as soon as we can helps us offer our Spring, TX patients less complex treatments. Contact us today to find out more about our digital x-ray procedures and schedule your next exam.

Who Is a Good Candidate For Digital X-rays?
With x-rays, we can evaluate the health of areas we cannot see during the physical exam. We take these low-radiation images on a preventive basis and as a part of your yearly comprehensive dental examination. Generally, we take them while you're in our office for your cleaning visit. We might also need to take x-rays if you have pain or other oral discomfort, in order to diagnose your problem. Patients of all ages may safely receive x-rays, but we take care to minimize exposure by recommending x-rays only when it's necessary for preventive or restorative reasons. You should let our team know if you are pregnant or think you may be pregnant prior to receiving your x-ray so we can take special precautions to protect your health.
How Do We Perform Digital X-rays?
Typically, we'll take your preventive x-rays at the beginning of your dental exam and cleaning visit once a year. Digital software makes this a quick, efficient process that's more comfortable than those taken with traditional film. The whole process takes less than ten minutes. We'll place a small sensor next to your teeth in different areas of your mouth. The image, once exposed, is transmitted directly to your patient record in our computer. Our dentist will evaluate your x-rays and go over any areas of note or concern with you.
What Happens After Digital X-rays?
At your first consultation with us, we typically take a full set of x-rays or a panoramic x-ray in order to evaluate your teeth and jawbone. Every 3 – 5 years following that, we will take another. Check-up (bitewing) x-rays will be taken between these comprehensive x-rays, to allow our team to assess the bone level or check for cavities between your teeth during your routine exams. X-rays allow our team to evaluate dental issues before they develop any further so we can use a more conservative treatment.
Does My Dental Insurance Cover a Digital X-rays?
Insurance typically covers panoramic and a full series of x-rays every 3 – 5 years and bitewing x-rays on a yearly basis. Prior to your appointment, the Made Ya Smile team will contact your provider and evaluate your benefits for dental radiograph imaging. We will alert you to any out-of-pocket costs. In order to ensure every patient gets the treatment they need for exceptional oral health, we accept several convenient payment methods along with CareCredit®.
