Also known as "twilight sedation," this sedation dentistry solution involves a prescription anti-anxiety medication that you take an hour before your appointment. You will be calm and at ease with oral sedation but still able to follow our instructions. If you have avoided treatment for your smile because of fear or anxiety, contact our compassionate team today and schedule an appointment for a welcoming visit with board-certified dentist Dr. Eric Capps and the Made Ya Smile team in Spring, TX
"EXCELLENT place to go to. I can't say enough on how accommodating and welcoming everyone is there. From the very moment I walked in, all anxiety of seeing a dentist for and my kids were put at ease. The dentist, my poor memory to recall his name, not only fun to look at, but was really knowledgeable about all my neurotic concerns. We will be going back and recommending to everyone we know."- C.H. / Yelp / Mar 11, 2020
"I have been seeing Dr. Green for many years for my cosmetic dentistry needs. There is no Dentist whose opinion in matters of Dentistry I value more. As a matter of fact, i had an emergency need JUST prior to my wedding day a few years back...and Dr. Green fit me in LAST minute and took care of my issues perfectly so that my stressed out wife (Most Importantly) and I were confident in my ability to shine for our wedding day photos. I will follow Dr. Green to whatever dental practice he happens to be. Thank you again sir!"- S.D. / Google / Feb 21, 2020

Oral-conscious sedation can be used for patients undergoing a variety of dental treatments. It may be beneficial for you if you have fear or anxiety about past or multiple upcoming dental treatments, or have a strong gag reflex. As a part of your treatment consultation, Dr. Capps will go over your medical and dental histories and understand your dental fears and decide if you are a good candidate for oral sedation. To keep you safe, we will ask you to share information about health conditions you have and medications or supplements you are taking. This information will help us choose the right anti-anxiety medication to help meet your needs. We will call in a prescription to your pharmacy of choice. If you are pregnant, are allergic to benzodiazepines, or have heart or respiratory issues, you may not be a candidate for oral sedation.
What To Expect
Many types of anti-anxiety medications are prescribed at Made Ya Smile for oral-conscious sedation in minimal or higher doses depending on your needs for sedation, the length or complexity of your treatment, and your overall health. In your treatment consultation, you will be given a prescription for anti-anxiety medication, which you should take an hour before your scheduled treatment time. You will remain awake during your sedation, but you will be drowsy and may not remember much of your procedure. Possibly, you will fall into a light sleep while being treated, but it will be easy for you to wake up when it's time. It is important, because of these effects, that a responsible adult drives you to and from your visit.
Our team will talk with you ahead of your use of oral sedation about what to expect, how you will feel, and any potential side effects you may experience. Recovery varies among patients because levels of medication are different from patient to patient and can induce lighter or heavier sedation effects. Regardless of the dosage, you will need someone to drive you to and from your appointment and stay with you for a few hours until the effects of the sedation wear off. You will not be able to drive for the rest of the day due to drowsiness that will continue past the point at which the sedative effects of the medication subside. Side effects of anti-anxiety medication include dizziness, vomiting, nausea, or headaches and you may experience these during your recovery. You can minimize the risk of nausea and vomiting by eating a light meal before your visit and a small snack an hour or so after your appointment. If you have lingering side effects or other concerns after your treatment, please don't hesitate to reach out to us.
When you visit us for your consultation, we will speak with your dental insurance provider to find out if your plan offers coverage for oral-conscious sedation. Convenient payment options are available for those who will pay out-of-pocket or will not use insurance. We want sedation to fit comfortably within your budget, and we partner with CareCredit® to bring low-interest financing options to our patients.
Receiving routine dental care is important, and at Made Ya Smile, we do not want anxiety or fears about the dentist to cause you to miss out on getting the beautiful, confident smile you have always wanted. We care about our patients who are dental averse and want to ensure your comfort, which is why we offer this oral-conscious sedation option. Whether you need simple or complex care, call our Spring, TX office today to find out more about oral-conscious sedation.
